I’ve been to… Baraboo, Devil’s Lake…

Extremely windy today. Every weather report this morning said, “Keep two hands on the wheel”. They weren’t kidding.

Every morning before I head out I look for coffee and a doughnut for the drive. Preferably Dunkin’. Got my first wrong doughnut this morning at the Dunkin’ in Fond du Lac. It was bound to happen, but I missed my old fashioned doughnut. Despite the set back, I made it to Baraboo.

I learned today that Baraboo is where Al, Otto, John, Charley, and Alf T. got their start on May 19, 1884. You know them as the Ringling Brothers Circus.

Nearby, actually in Baraboo, is Devil’s Lake. Contained within Devil’s Lake State Park. So two places from the song within twenty minutes. That doesn’t seem likely to happen again.

And this just goes in the category, “Things don’t you wish you had?”

At some point during the day this song came up on the playlist. Early on, when Janelle and I were still melding our musical tastes, she bought the CD that contains this song for me. That would have been in 2000. This is one of only maybe a handful of songs that were so woven into our marriage. They were just “us”. And this was the first. It hurt so much to hear it – but also made me think how lucky and special what we had was.

  1. Now that is some kind of car. Where do people get these ideas. Now with the Dunkin deal. Old Fashion is my favorite and there is nothing worse than thinking you are going to be biting into one and open the bag and it is something like say, jelly or crunch, really sucks, but at least the coffee is always hot! That you can always count on. Gotta look at the bright side I guess. Oh, and by the way, great song. Happy Trails my friend.
