Time to head North

… at a leisurely, southern pace. I had intended to spend another night in St. Augustine, but Imbolc was more stressful than I had anticipated. I needed to drive. So instead of waiting for Thursday, and driving all the way to Savannah, I headed out on Wednesday, tentatively, and not sure how far to go. No sooner had I made that commitment than a rainbow appeared right in front of me. I’m sure it was a Celtic god of something endorsing my decision. I’ll hit Savannah on Thursday.

I took A1A out of St. Augustine and stopped at the Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve. Then circled around on a wonderful bridge and up to Amelia Island. That had been a tentative stopping point for the day, but I ended up going on to Brunswick, Georgia.

I had a couple of beers at Silver Bluff Brewing and borrowed a trick from Janelle. Both bartenders talked about Indigo Coastal Shanty. I can’t say it was promising from the outside. But one doesn’t argue with one’s bartenders. I asked the server for recommendations. After mentioning what looked good to me, she recommended a few adjustments and a beer. She was not wrong! A cup of black bean soup and a grilled jerk shrimp noodle/salad bowl. Divine.

I got a beautiful view of the industrial Brunswick waterfront as I headed to the hotel.

And as I drafted this post, a new/old picture of Janelle showed up unsolicited on Facebook. For those that didn’t know her in college, including me, here’s a peek…
