I’ve been in Savannah, Georgia for about a week. It took a couple of days to get a feel for the city. I’ve spent most of my time in city center. Beautiful architecture, lovely squares, and Forsyth Park. Just don’t try making someone else liable for your COVID. The walk down Bull Street from the river to Forsyth Park will give you an introduction to the city structure. Then branch out from there.

I spent two or three hours in Bonaventure Cemetery, made famous in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? That’s the cemetery at the top of the page and below. You’ll need to drive out to the cemetery, but I wouldn’t miss it. I didn’t take a formal tour, but next time I come back I will. Too much to grasp solo. Johnny Mercer is under the bench to the right.

Sisters of the New South – Smothered shrimp with mac ‘n’ cheese, red rice, and greens. Gotta have a bridge picture. And one of a hundred architectural styles seen on Savannah streets.

I had dinner at The Grey last night. My first fancy dinner alone. The food was good and the service great. Even the server that came up and gushed, “Your dining alone! Don’t you just love it? You are so lucky! I love dining alone!.” Which kind of took me by surprise – but it also made me think about her perspective. It was a bit of a jolt, but I think it actually put me in a better place.

I’ve never had a desire to go to Savanah, but you made it look appealing for a visit.

They are Southern. And they do like there Confederate memorials. But the architecture is amazing as is the food and drink. The Savannah College of Art and Design also provides a more modern vibe to parts of downtown. Go and enjoy what you like and try to ignore the rest.

That dessert would be enough of a dining companion for me.
