I finally made it back to the Cloisters this week. They were lovely. But they didn’t live up to my childhood memories. I guess the question should be, “What does?”. Part of that may also be a change in norms – I find it jarring to read the descriptions of various antiquities that were “acquired” by the Rockefellers, and others, from Europe in the Gilded Age. But I am also aware that left to deteriorate in situ, or risk WW II, a significant portion, especially of archetectural components, may not have survived. Definitely, for me, a gray firmly ensconced somewhere between black and white.

In other news, I had dinner with Sandy at the Berkshire Cafe in Torrington, CT. I can’t certify that it is the best pizza in Connecticut, but I can say it tasted pretty good to me. It was also good to talk with Sandy about music, travel, and family. Looking forward to a repeat engagement. Bought a ticket today to a David Bromberg Quintet show in Maine that Sandy found for me.
Finally, I’m spending the night in Vermont – the only state west of the Mississippi that I have not already traversed in the Journey. The “States” page is updated.
Glad you enjoyed the pizza…. though not of the famous ‘New Haven’ variety, in my opinion, The Berkshire has one of the best pizza’s in the State…. Though blasphemous from a native Nutmegger, I am not a fan of the Pepe’s Pizza of New Haven pizza fame. Pizza is one of those subjective foods. But I can say that I have never tasted good pizza outside of the Connecticut/New York area (excluding Chicago which is a completely different animal!). In any case, Vern, glad you enjoyed the pizza. I also enjoyed our conversation and perhaps next time you’ll come down for some area concert and we can share some music along with the conversation and Connecticut pizza.
