I cleared French customs today. I took the ferry from Fortune, Newfoundland, population 1.285, to St. Pierre, population of the entire collectivity is 5,714. Very foggy! Quite chilly. I just don’t know what 6C is.
I drove down to Fortune Thursday night to catch the Friday ferry. Arrived at my hotel and found exactly no-one. Called the number and was told I was in room 7 and the key was in the room. It was just me for several hours, but a few more guests arrived later. Never met the staff.
Once I knew there was a French island off the coast of Newfoundland, I had to go. Right? Many, but not all places accept Canadian dollars. But the local currency is Euros. So now I have USD, CAD, and Euro in various denominations.

I am staying at Auberge St. Pierre. I highly recommend if you ever find yourself in St. Pierre. A wonderful host, pleasant facility, and if the pastries sitting in the lobby at check-in are any indication, breakfast will be just fine. This is what awaited me in my room.
Dinner tonight at Feu de Braise. I’d give them a C. The food and service were fine, but not outstanding. Although the flavor of the local snow crab was phenomenal! And the profiterole was what a profiterole is. Make that a B. Dinner tomorrow is at Les P’tits Gravier. If you are considering visiting, book your hotel AND your dinner reservations well in advance.
