Portland

Ventured into the Old Port today. With mixed results.

Had a pleasurable breakfast on Friday with Rebecca and Wendy at Hot Suppa. It was good to be able to chat in a less frenetic environment than when last we met. I went back to the house and caught up on all the clerical work that got pushed aside to hit the road. And to rest up for dinner with Chuck at Dimillo’s in the evening.

I chose to go down to the Old Port a little early and have a couple of beers. I wanted to raise a glass in a couple of places that were special to us. Not the best plan I ever made. I look forward to the time when I can go into old haunts and feel at peace, or maybe even smile at the good times. At least I hope that lies ahead. But I’m sure not there now – each place just seemed hollow. And so did I.

But I had a wonderful visit with Chuck who is clearly well thought of at Dimillo’s. Right to the front of the line, to an excellent table. A leisurely dinner over which we caught up on the state of the world. And then finished with an afogado.

Overall a good day, just a little rocky in the middle.

Two old haunts and a neutral one

Vivid memories of music, beer, and tubular pork products

When we wanted to hang with the the cool kids.

Finished with, new to me, afogado

The music library didn’t let me down yesterday.
