I’ve been to… Boston

Song-city number three. Had a meal with Joan and her family. Lots of conversation to go with great food and the excellent bottle of wine contributed by Joanna. I should have taken a picture of dessert. Into the Isabella Stuart Gardner museum today with Joan to see, among numerous other things, the stolen Rembrandt.

Headed out tomorrow morning on my own. I must say I’ve been pretty rocky today, at one point even considered tossing in the towel already. I don’t know if the pace has been too frenetic up to this point, or it is a sub-conscious foreboding of aloneness. Or the phase of the moon. Stable at this moment and plan to head out early tomorrow to pick up Chicopee and Pittsfield.

Dinner and a museum

I was never a big fan of the Steve Miller original. But when this version came up I was converted.

  1. Don’t know if this will help but – I tend to rush to accomplishment, to check things off my list, and fail to enjoy the moment. I have been trying to be more present in the day and less focused on the next task. Is there any way to orient your travels less around goals and more around doing what you really enjoy? Like being in a warm climate where the COVID levels are low?

    1. Hah! Acknowledged. Janelle was a constant reminder to enjoy what we see, and when we can’t see it all, know that we can treasure what we did see. It doesn’t come naturally, but I think I learned that lesson. Maybe. I think it is more likely the ups and downs of grief. Again, maybe.

  2. I think you’ll appreciate this, Vern. I was in a meeting with the fiscal folks from a state agency, trying to figure out what the rules are for spending a big chunk of COVID dollars we received to help communities provide opioid prevention services. Anyway, because it has the potential to for future disagreements and Ohio is a one-party consent state, I was recording the meeting on my phone. But, when the meeting was over I forgot to stop recording. So, now it seems to end with k.d. lang singing about being a midnight toker. (-: Kate

  4. Easy to say Verne but just try to slow it down a bit. You have a life raft if needed which is a comfort in the back of ur mind. Love reading ur thoughts on your trip and adventure!

  5. Jeff and I went to that museum right before the world shut down due to Covid …. Like days before…. As one might expect of me I got to close to some exhibit and set off an alarm and a security guard scooted me away! 🤣. Anyway , don’t throw in the towel. Keep on keeping on as your beloved Janelle would want you to . No one knows what you are are going through but you . I cant pretend to know , but suspect she is with you all the way!
