I’ve been to… Louisville…

Nothing too much to say about Louisville – took the long way here up Route 31E, a portion of which is the Lincoln Heritage Scenic Highway. The highlight was the full size billboard quoting Proverbs 13:24. “Spare the Rod. Spoil the Child.” That was just a short way from the subdivision with a sign proclaiming, “We believe in God, Guys, and Guns.” Anyway, I got in later than planned and haven’t seen much of Louisville.

Back in Nashville, the plan had been to keep the car parked and see what I could on foot. That was until Brittany’s friend said I “had” to have a Five Daughters Donut. I don’t know if it is a DC thing, but apparently you don’t say “no”. So off I went to find Five Daughters. And stand in line. Behind people buying $100 of donuts each. My turn came and I looked at the guy and said, “I’m under orders to have a donut, which one is the “go to” donut? I’ll take one.” And paid my $4.79 with a credit card because they don’t take cash. For those taking notes it is the croissant style 100 Layer Donut, infused and topped with vanilla buttercream, dusted generously with powdered sugar.

Also in Nashville – I spent Tuesday afternoon walking the various entertainment areas and listening to some live music. With the sun still up. Maybe every fifth bar had someone playing. I went back on Wednesday afternoon to dig a little deeper on side streets. Every single bar, and there are quite a few, had live music playing by 1 PM. Amazing. And all to cash in on the hoards of people. I couldn’t figure out how they got a couple of cruise ships into Nashville. Turns out it was busloads and busloads being dropped off from the AARP tour of Nashville. I didn’t last long.

I did get to see the Ryman from the outside.

The benefit of getting in early, was that I was up early today. Here’s the view from my hotel window.

  1. So, how was that donut? It looks pretty good, but sounds complicated! Nashville with all that live music sounds good…. except for the AARP buses! 🙂

    1. The donut was delicious. The amount of musical talent in Nashville is incredible. I would want to find some more “local” venues, rather than the District on Broadway. But it was fun listening to them all.

  2. I have been to Nashville, went to the Grand Ole Opry and went out to Opry Land. It was all wonderful. We walked the streets a few times while there, listened to musicf while Dennis I thinked enjoyed the beer and talking to locals more than the music. He did have a good time though. Glad you did as well.
