I’ve been to… Dayton, Kalamazoo…

“When justice and mercy prevail, children may safely play” allegedly from Zechariah, is what the plaque says. Located in the park across the street from Kalamazoo City Hall.

To finish up with Louisville, I headed downtown in the morning before hitting the road to Evansville. For those not aware, I love bridges – all shapes and sizes. The Big Four Railroad Bridge was irresistible. That’s downtown Louisville in the background.

I was in Evansville, Indiana Friday night, and Dayton, Ohio last night. Didn’t post yesterday because I was still recovering from my visit with Bruce. I had a great visit, with some very perceptive comments from both Bruce and Katrina, but I’m concerned I might be a bad influence.

On to Dayton…

The photo suggests I wasn’t at peak form in Dayton, though the chili four ways helped

I felt much better today, and it was a beautiful, clear, sunny day for a drive. I hit Kalamazoo a bit after noon and headed down the road toward, Muskegon, where I am tonight. Had a nice dinner of fried perch and tater tots.

But in between Kalamazoo and Muskegon, I saw on the map Bangor, Michigan, population 1,829. That couldn’t be missed, so with a slight detour, I stopped in.

Tomorrow is Cadillac and then up to Traverse City. Following the shore of Lake Michigan up to Petoskey for the night. I think.

More of the Big Four Bridge

  1. I did not know of your love of bridges, Vern – you’ve likely already seen the articles about one of our relatives who designed an important bridge, maybe in Canada? (Clearly, it made a big impression on me. (-: ) If not, I can dig it out when you come.

  2. Wish I knew you were going to be in Dayton. Was there for work several times. The Air Force Museum there is fantastic (if you are into planes), and a fun side trip is the Wright Brothers bicycle shop and museum. Fun to see the mechanics of their flying machine at the museum. Looks like good chili!
