I’ve been to… Cadillac…

I find that I have no clear memory of the decision making process that led to committing to Chicago in December. More distressing, I have a very clear memory that it was I that thought getting to Chicago by transiting the Upper Peninsula was a good idea. That’s Cadillac, Michigan in the photo. I’m 120 miles north of there in St. Ignace on the UP tonight. Headed another 50 miles north to Sault Ste. Marie in the morning before I turn the car south toward the warmer climes of Chicago.

After Cadillac I swung northwest and hit Traverse City (thinking of Jillian), and on to Charlevoix and Petoskey on Bruce’s suggestion. The whole area reminds me of Maine, including the 45th parallel. They just have way more cherry trees than we have apple trees.

I had lunch at Smoke on the Water in Charlevoix. That’s spinach soup. And a reuben.

Then from Petoskey it was on to Mackinaw and St. Ignace, where I found a respectable bridge to get to the UP.

I wish I could share all this with Janelle…
