I’ve been to… Atmore…

The first song-city of 2022. I drove from Natchez to Mobile on Friday and spent New Year’s Eve in Mobile. Off to Atmore, Alabama first thing in the morning, then straight down to Pensacola. From there, right along the coast along Route 98, ending the day in Apalachicola, and back in the Eastern time zone.

I liked Apalachicola, a nice small town, few chains, and no high-rise condos. It looks like a working port. And they still have pay phones. It would have been better if at least one of the seafood restaurants was open, but being working, not tourist, oriented, they all stayed home on January 1.

“Joy”, a cheery Lucinda Williams song set in Louisiana…

  1. Well, Lucinda Williams was a pleasant surprise! I always thought she was strict country, I really enjoyed ‘Joy’! Thanks for the introduction. I need to do some musical research!

    1. she has quite a mix. Got famous for alt-country but she has a mixed catalog from roots Delta blues to some stuff with a harder edge. I don’t know her current status but she was getting darker and darker. And I think has some health issues. At the last Austin City Limits Festival we attended (early 2000’s) out of 135 bands, she was the only one to start late.
