I’ve been to… Tampa, Sarasota…

I arrived in the Tampa Bay area on Sunday. Today is Thursday. I’ve been roosting at a KOA in Bradenton breaking in the new tent. Or the new tent may have been breaking me in. A co-evolution. The campground has been peaceful. Maybe a little too much so – my demons sure caught up with me on Monday. But I’ve hung in there, did a few day trips, caught up on some paperwork, and even did the laundry. I’ve become a huge fan of Publix markets for meals.

I went into Tampa, but being COVID cautious I didn’t find much to do.

I did go to a weird used book and LP store? I went to Lettuce Lake State Park on Monday and cried my way around the Boardwalk. At least I had sympathetic company.

I did better the rest of the week. I went down and saw John and Theresa on Tuesday and got a tour of Venice. I stopped into and checked off Sarasota on my way to see them. Wednesday I sat around the campsite and read. A big thank you to Susan who pointed out the new Neal Stephenson tome at the book store. It has kept me occupied. More sitting around this morning. Headed up to Valrico this afternoon to see Maddie.

From here I think I’m headed east. Maybe Lake Okeechobee. TBD. Will let you know.

  1. I’m probably always a bit late with my recommendations, should pay more attention to your next destination, but the Salvador Dali Museum is in St. Petersburg and is excellent — assuming you like Dali’s work. I find his painting fascinating with the optical illusions and picture within a picture artwork. Well worth a visit if you are back that way and have the time.

    1. Please keep the suggestions coming! I haven’t taken up many because I’ve just been trying to cover ground. I don’t know if it is because I spent so much time behind the wheel alone for work, but I do much better driving. When I try to go see the sights I have a much harder time, I find myself thinking Janelle ought to be by my side. I’m trying to work my way out of that, so any suggestions you have are really appreciated. I’ll get to them eventually! ;-]

    1. I think you have gardening to tend to? There are sights to see, but consider how Omicron might change your behaviors. It isn’t always easy to find a safe spot to eat, either because of what is on the menu, or because it is inside service only. And you will definitely be in the minority wearing a mask most places. The good side is that social distancing makes it easier to refrain from commenting on the political views espoused by those surrounding you.
