Mount Dora Scottish Festival

I should know by now that if I don’t do something promptly, inertia/procrastination gain dominance. I was at the Mount Dora Scottish Festival on February 18th. I’m bringing you that “news” on March 13th. I’m pretty sure it’s genetic, so no culpability on my part. Good music and the large variety of attendees made for good crowd watching. I mixed in some caber tossing – observation, not participation.

Who can pass up a Scotch Egg? Not the best rendition I have had, but admirable fair food. And this was my first experience with Irn-Bru. Sugar, caffeine, and quinine. Glad of the opportunity, but I have to say I remain a Moxie partisan.

I’ve been searching for a candle that will travel easily for regular observation of the Wheel of the Year. I’ve got a generic white, scentless candle that has provided a perfectly fine flame. But I have wanted something self-contained, and with a scent that felt appropriate to the memories. There were two women, apparently owners, with a booth at the festival. Arkaeologi.com

They were wonderful. I spent an inordinate amount of time as they presented various candle scents, all of which were lacking. And I possess no vocabulary to describe scent. So zero feedback to the purveyors. Finally, they handed me a candle, I took one whiff, and said, “That’s it!”. To which they burst out laughing. It turns out that it is the favorite scent of one of the women, and their worst selling scent. Typical.

It got worse. The candle I preferred out of all those offered, the scent I chose to honor Janelle, is “Excavation”.

What can I say? With a small intervention, I didn’t buy a kilt.

  1. Sounds like a fun time. Always wanted to go to a Scottish Festival — for the games, not the food! You are more adventurous than I am in that department! You should have gotten the kilt….
