Wrapping up in Santa Fe

My thirty day deployment is coming to an end. I’ve really enjoyed Santa Fe. The country side, the arts, the food… all wonderful. There is an underlying distrust, tending to animosity, to federal government. That has been a new experience. Makes some of our difficulties more tangible.

I was strongly encouraged, nay commanded, to go to Meow Wolf. Very glad I did, although definitely outside my comfort zone. That’s me with the thirty foot robot. I’m on the right.

Below are a few photos from the installation. The dinosaur ribs were hooked up to tone generators. Pick up some soft mallets and play away.

Below are from the 17th Annual Crawdaddy Music Festival in Madrid. As is the photo at the top of the page. Three stages and fun music. And a steam train under one tent. Madrid is a cute, touristy little town.

The food was maybe the best part of New Mexico. I got the pastries at a panaderia, and was pleased out of proportion to find that they were familiar with “elephant ears”. Janelle carried strong memories of elephant ears, either from her grandmother, or great-grandmother. Sad that I can’t ask. In the middle is pumpkin dough with pumpkin filling, and on the right, a pineapple turnover.

On the far right are chilaquiles – completely new to me. “Corn tortillas, gently fried in chile sauce (you choose red or green)”, and served with eggs cooked your way. And maybe some sour cream. And a hunk of beef. If you are in Santa Fe, I highly recommend Cafe el Comal on Cerillos Rd. Low rent, real deal food in a strip mall.

  1. I do have to say that this food looks wonderful!! I still enjoy reading your posts. I love the fact that you are seeing all of our country, a thing I always wanted to with our camper.
